Water and Electricity Ministry
Presented Sustainability Award
The
Minister of Water and Electricity,
Abdullah Al-Husayyan, received Marafiq’s
Sustainability Award for 2009 on behalf
of his ministry from the President and
CEO Thamer S. Al-Sharhan, at the Saudi
Water and Power Forum in Jeddah on
October 11.
In his
short speech Al-Sharhan said
the Marafiq
Award for Sustainability
was created to
celebrate and encourage sustainable
development practices
Many cultures over the course of
human
history have recognized the need for
harmony between the environment,
society and
economy. Hence the field of sustainable
development consists of three
parts: Environmental
sustainability,
economic sustainability and
socio-political sustainability.
The Marafiq Award recognizes
exceptional achievement in all
the three fields.
He said the
recipient of this
year’s Marafiq Award, the
Ministry of Water and Electricity, is
recognized for
the quality and impact
of its contribution to
water conservation in the Kingdom.The
Minister thanked Marafiq for recognizing
his ministry’s efforts and contribution.
The Award
function was the highlight of the
opening day ceremony of Saudi Water and
Power Forum. The award presentation
ceremony was attended by high-profile
officials, businessmen, executives from
the utility sectors and Marafiq
Executive Management Team. The ceremony
was followed by a luncheon hosted by
Marafiq. The first Sustainability Award
was given to General Electric last year.
