The Marafiq Award for Sustainability (MSA) is presented each year during the Award Ceremony at the official opening of the Saudi Water and Power Forum. The MSA has been created to acknowledge, celebrate and encourage sustainable practices in Saudi Arabia that promote environmental, social and economic development.

The selection criteria for the MSA are in keeping with Marafiq'›s mission, its commitment to environment-friendly practices and its role as a socially responsible corporate citizen. Criteria include strategies, policies, technologies or processes that promote sustainable development. Recipients of the award are recognized for the quality of their achievements and contributions in promoting sustainable development in the Kingdom.

Any Saudi company, institution and contractor, as well as international companies, developers and contractors active in Saudi Arabia, are eligible for the award. Nominations can be made online on the SWPF website by any individual or organization. The SWPF Advisory Committee has the final word in appointing the winner of the MSA.

Marafiq also has an internal nomination procedure with a well-structured process to nominate its own candidate for the award to the SWPF Advisory Committee. A dedicated team, called the MSA Team, organizes and manages the process. The team members are Saeed Abdullah, PR and Communication Manager, Ahmed Al-Khars, Head Internal Audit, Stefanus Ferreira, Corporate Communication Consultant, Basheer Al-Tarouty, PR Specialist, and Ardee Flores, Admin Officer at PR and Communication.

The MSA Team, in close cooperation with Customer Relations, starts the selection process by inviting industries in Jubail and Yanbu to register for participation in the MSA. Registered participants complete an extensive survey form to present evidence of their sustainability performance. After careful scrutiny and scoring of the completed surveys, the MSA Team selects a shortlist of the best entries and conducts a personal on-site audit of each of the shortlisted candidates.

The MSA Team submits its choice of Marafiq’s top three nominees to Marafiq's Executive Management Team (EMT), together with a full justification for each nomination. The EMT then challenges the MSA Team and, if satisfied, selects the final Marafiq nominee. Finally, the MSA Team submits Marafiq’s choice to the SWPF Advisory Committee for consideration along with all the other nominations made through the online channel.
